The elusive cool girl: a guide
Everyone wants to be a cool girl. THE cool girl. À la Amy Dunne in Gone Girl. The issue is, how do we define cool girl? How do we pin down what it takes and what it means to be a cool girl? Especially, in a world seemingly full of cool girls.
I literally have a Pinterest board entitled “cool girl shit” and not to be presumptuous but I feel like I know my audience and you probably have some version of this too, maybe just with a different name. Anyway, I have been gathering data, intel even, on things that make a cool girl. Here are some key elements of a cool girl that were pretty mutually agreed upon by my colleagues (aka just my friends and roommates lol)
has one jacket that is like THEIR jacket
CONFIDENCE (duh)
always has multiple crushes
passionate about a few weirdly specific niche topics
doesn’t snapchat
reads
shits with tiktok on full volume
is nice (but lowkey comes off as a bitch)
always has a side quest
shops secondhand
doesn’t have a boyfriend (this one may be controversial sorry)
has a purse to go with her outfit
probably used to be ugly
wears a watch
Irish goodbyes
laughs/talks during sex
dances at the function
plans elaborate trips/parties/events but never follows through
knows how to use rollers
has a curated messy room on purpose
only wears one pair of jeans that you won’t be able to buy anywhere
loves a bath
still sleeps with their childhood stuffed animal
has 20,000+ photos in camera roll
is good storyteller and somehow always has a story to tell
Anyway, I feel like I could go on and on with this list, and don’t worry I’ll keep updating it as things come to me. But, there was one thing that almost everyone said makes a cool girl which I obviously have to share, which is: A cool girl is 100% herself and doesn’t give one shred of a fuck what people think of her or how she comes off to other people.
Leaving you all on that note. Bye, love you!
